I am using Google Chrome, Windows 7.

When I am on Betfair, and open up the forum in a new tab, and also when I open Timeform in a new tab, I get a sidebar with "Related Searches " in the heading, and also get  full page pop-up ads for Casino.com, Paddy Power, Betfred etc.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so how did you get rid of it ? It has only started happening in the last couple of days.

Here's another description, which uninstalls Webcake, or Conduit, which can be the culprits:-

How to Uninstall “Related Searches” Sidebar in Google Chrome
1. Open Google Chrome Internet browser.
2. Click on Settings (three horizontal bars icon or wrench icon for old versions) or ‘Customize and Control Google Chrome’ button located on top right corner of the browser.
3. Click on Tools > Extensions from the drop-down list.
4. You can see Webcake or Conduit from the list of installed extensions; remove it by clicking on the ‘Trash’ icon.
5. Please restart Google Chrome.

Yontoo is another possible culprit.

Thanks for the detailed instructions, ged ...I will follow them through, and hopefully that will be the problem solved.

I started doing ged's instructions, and,  while looking at "extensions" saw an ad for "Adblock" which is presumably what tambhoy was referring to in the first reply. So I downloaded it and wowee !...mo more unwanted ads.

Thanks again to both of you, and I can heartily recommend downloading Adblock ...it's free, but you can send a donation to the developer...I sent $20.

getadblock.com is the url.
Report tambhoy5 October 25, 2013 12:51 PM BST
sometimes you need to pause your adblock temporarily  on certain proper sites if you want to watch catch up tv etc but it's no big deal.
wouldn't have sent him $20 though.LaughShocked

Tam one would have expected he would have sent the $20 to you or Ged!

NEVER pay for ad removal - Malware Bytes & SuperAntispyware do it for free and they are very good too.  Run them both cos they remove different files.

It was worth $20 to me to get rid of the bloody annoying Betfred and Casino ads ... and anyway, it's good karma...I will probably be rewarded by a very successful afternoon on Betfair  Grin

What puzzles me is that if they are both so good how come they don't both remove the same problems?

Programs are different.  There are several ways to string a cat!

Surely ....

AdBlock -  Does what it says on the tin - and BLOCKS adverts from appearing on your Browser - and it is very efficient, especially the FIREFOX version.

However -

MALWARE/SPYWARE - are REMOVAL tools - which is an entirely different thing.

They will not remove EXTENSIONS - that you have CHOSEN to install on your Computer - quite obviously.... otherwise - Every time you ran Malwarebytes/SuperAntiSpyware - you would have to RE-Install your EXTENSIONS.

Malwarebytes  and SuperAntispyware - are both very good - and I use them both ...

-  although they rarely find anything, because I regularly 'Keep my Computer' clean..... primarily by Blocking THIRD-PARTY COOKIES - which are the source of most 'Tracking Cookies' - which is what the above both find most of.
