I have great pleasure in informing you that I received written confirmation this afternoon from the senior legal representative for Manchester City Council who has registered Belle Vue Greyhound Stadium as an Asset of Community Value.

This now means that if Crown Oil Pension Fund wish to dispose of Belle Vue they must inform the Council's lawyer who in turn must give the Friends of Belle Vue Greyhound Stadium 6 weeks to make a counter-offer. We are now in a position whereby we will know first hand if anyone is making any offers as we have to be informed by law.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your help in accumulating the names and addresses of our supporters and continuing to encourage more to join, this is a great result for us all, well done to everyone.

I have received clearance from Clive and Mick for you to publish this great news and have been very supportive throughout.

Copied from the Owners Forum, not me who has been dealing with it

Planning application will shortly be submitted for housing development according to a leaflet from Nexus/Countryside properties, which is being distributed to local residents. The plans are for 243 new houses on the site of the Greyhound track. Obviously they have to get planning, but the proposal is being worked on. All this must have been done with the full knowledge of Crown Oil who own the land, and the GRA who have a 15 year lease. The first 5 year review of the lease is due this week coincidentally. Up to the council now to refuse the application, or a saviour to step in and purchase the land and keep the track going it seems.

Another tragic loss for the sport and for possibly the best running track in the country.

The home of greyhound racing since 1927

Another nail in the coffin

Sad times Sad

How much did the people who own it pay for it ?
Report Deepdale Dreamer July 12, 2018 7:10 PM BST
Crown Oil bought it for 2.6 million 5 years ago. The GRA have a 15 year lease with 5 year breaks. GRA pay 1 million in rent apparently over each 5 year period so at the end of the 15 years, Crown Oil will have had the land for nothing and 400k in their pockets. However will the GRA contimue to pay rent for another 10 years must be the landowners concern

If Belle Vue closes, wonder who will get the Oaks and Laurels?
Report Deepdale Dreamer July 21, 2018 8:30 AM BST
The laurels has already moved to Newcastle hasn't it. Did The Other Reg not win it for Pat Rosney last year?

the death of greyhound racing in the north west of England?
Report Deepdale Dreamer July 21, 2018 8:38 AM BST
Towcester are sniffing round for this year's Oaks. Just waiting for the GRA to announce that they won't be able to hold the competition this year because they can't find a sponsor!

Thanks Deepdale, memory not what it used to be

Good riddance to the GRA who have done nothing but p*ssed all over the sport!

Slogan used to be "Great Racing Always"

Now, reckon it stands for "Greyhound Racing Annihilators"
Report Deepdale Dreamer July 23, 2018 2:45 PM BST
Feltham confirmed now that he's given the Oaks to Towcester. Last of the big races gone. What a shambles the place has become. A diluted Scurry Cup & Northern Flat is all that we have left. Thank goodness the BAPP group have kept those going for now.

As Hobsie would say

I am surprised at this as massive catchment area in Liverpool and Manchester for a greyhound track Laugh

Just as he sends his invoice in to rptv for another nights gravy train

Not giving two hoots about any track that closes
