I have great pleasure in informing you that I received written confirmation this afternoon from the senior legal representative for Manchester City Council who has registered Belle Vue Greyhound Stadium as an Asset of Community Value.

This now means that if Crown Oil Pension Fund wish to dispose of Belle Vue they must inform the Council's lawyer who in turn must give the Friends of Belle Vue Greyhound Stadium 6 weeks to make a counter-offer. We are now in a position whereby we will know first hand if anyone is making any offers as we have to be informed by law.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your help in accumulating the names and addresses of our supporters and continuing to encourage more to join, this is a great result for us all, well done to everyone.

I have received clearance from Clive and Mick for you to publish this great news and have been very supportive throughout.

Planning application will shortly be submitted for housing development according to a leaflet from Nexus/Countryside properties, which is being distributed to local residents. The plans are for 243 new houses on the site of the Greyhound track. Obviously they have to get planning, but the proposal is being worked on. All this must have been done with the full knowledge of Crown Oil who own the land, and the GRA who have a 15 year lease. The first 5 year review of the lease is due this week coincidentally. Up to the council now to refuse the application, or a saviour to step in and purchase the land and keep the track going it seems.

Another tragic loss for the sport and for possibly the best running track in the country.

How much did the people who own it pay for it ?

Crown Oil bought it for 2.6 million 5 years ago. The GRA have a 15 year lease with 5 year breaks. GRA pay 1 million in rent apparently over each 5 year period so at the end of the 15 years, Crown Oil will have had the land for nothing and 400k in their pockets. However will the GRA contimue to pay rent for another 10 years must be the landowners concern
