With the English participation at best sketchy and with most Irish dogs under a cloud, still best to tread cautiously ante-post

Would be keen on Good News and Clonbrien Hero if they didn't have injury doubts, same goes for Droopys Davy

Two little plays, backed Droopys Biker a while ago 40/1 and 50/1 English Derby night winner Innocent Times

Aye they have so please god they all price up the heats and give us a chance by letting us on. In fairness to the sponsors they let you have a bet in their shops on the comp and heats.
Star Sports are trying to get into SPK for the Derby as well.

And how could you back Innocent Times at 50s ffs, look at his form around SPK.

Aye would have been Plunkett or Damien, they don't mince their words, dog was getting beaten in bang average A0s (not even AA0s) earlier in the year, he would need massive improvement to be in with any sort of chance.
Report woodmanchester June 8, 2018 10:59 AM BST
PF, my logic he's improved. Did well round Towcester which doesn't suit wides. As fast as a leading King Turbo 500m and reckon basically as good a chance as Bruisers who's much shorter. Can see him doing well at Shelbourne now

He already showed he could run Towcester well in the Puppy Derby last year. He has shown nothing around SPK to suggest he could win the Derby.
Report woodmanchester June 8, 2018 11:06 AM BST
Thought you liked your early pace wide runners seeing as not many seeded that way? Wink
Report woodmanchester June 8, 2018 11:08 AM BST
Anyway, used to be a 29.50 dog round Towcester. Come on now, roughly 29secs last Saturday! Grin
Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y June 8, 2018 11:15 AM BST
Aye no way that track Saturday was running quicker than the one in the Puppy Derby. Besides that are you saying he has massively improved since March?? You're using Towcester as a guide to SPK. In that case you'd have made Sonic a million last year amongst others.
Report woodmanchester June 8, 2018 11:20 AM BST
Youngsters can show rapid improvement. Will hold my hands up if he's eliminated first round, but doubt it. Looks useful to me! Wink

Everything gets through the first round here Laugh it's usually 4 or 5 qualifying. 50s is a skinny price for a dog who has shown his best form away from SPK and it's months away from the comp still.

Hey though if you're happy to bet him work away.
Report woodmanchester June 8, 2018 11:34 AM BST
Remember, he nearly beat Wildcat in the Derby quarters. Form looks good. At least he seems fit and well. Unlike lots of the much shorter ones

Well what about Whoops Jack then Woody? 50s same price, blew holes in Innocent Times to the corner in the semi final, is proven that he can clock aeroplane times around SPK, his SPK form on another planet to Innocent Times, why are you not forgiving him his poor SPK runs ??

Just playing devils advocate

Just my opinion if he was mine innocent times would be targeted at the laurels in cork where the emphasis is on speed.  I,m sure the matthews family legends in the sport wont need me telling them wot to do. They will make up there own minds where to run him. If he did turn up in laurels i wouldn,t seed him as wen i worked in ireland u didn,t want to be outside at cork.

It's not my opinion that's a problem for him Woody, it's fact he has been a terrible kenneller. As I said at the start of the Towcester Derby they think they've got to the bottom of it, that's come from the owner.

Be very surprised if they got that many runners, first round over 2 nights would be my guess, the more the better though as stop the 4 and 5 qualifying crap.

I don't think SPK will start early either, when SIS used to show the racing I don't think it started early (trying to remember here), however as the Derby progresses the heats where ran earlier on the Saturday night card than they'd usually be.

Tuco has a tough draw tonight, the top will move right at boxes and the 3 is decent up and likely to squeeze him for room. Still though no prizes handed out tonight and SPK you'd think will suit him well the way he runs.

I dont know what the future plans are for this dog or if he will have enough experience to run in the biggest derby Laugh it is the only derby imo. Or maybe a run in puppy on night of stars. Biker was very impressive last night, bet him small at 5s for the comp but still have this nagging doubt in my mind how good he is up and if in better races can he turn the corner without getting a bang, last night he broke probably as good as he is going too and still only barely for me got around in second. No doubting him after that he was stunning from the 2nd bend home visually (without the clocks), however you have to be harsh on a dog that's going to be in all likelihood a 14s-16s fav now.

I've loved Slippy Cian ever since seeing him in the unraced at Tralee, didn't think he ran as well at Limerick in the Kirby Memorial but still made the final and it was clear something was amiss at Towcester. Always thought he was a Shelbourne dog and for me last night he was the most impressive in the stake, the way he put the bed to race early and easily was so impressive. However if I am going to judge Biker harshly I have to be consistent and be the same with Cian and he will have to show he can go up visually the same in better company as last nights race was hardly blessed with blinding early.

They're 2 dogs that should be right toward the top of the Derby market.

Played my 2nd bet on the Derby earlier in a shop, bet Ballymac Bolger @ 25s. Not usually my type of price in a Derby market but if there is a dog that'll turn out a real star from this Derby I do think he could be the one. He won the Juvenile Classic at Tralee beating Slippy Cian a SHD in the final, Slippy Cian did a huge amount of running in that final to get almost level off the last but it was impressive that Bolger could hold him to the line. Bolger has not raced since but his trials have been excellent, done 2 good sprint trials around SPK and his last 2 trials at Tralee where stunning, only 1L off the sprint clock and then only 2 spots off the 525y clock.

As for Biker the other night I thought he ran the 2nd, 3rd and 4th bends terribly, perhaps he may have been feeling something? One thing is for sure I was right to worry about him to the corner, he just doesn't have enough up for me and that race was hardly loaded with flying early.

Slippy Cian is coming along nicely, was really impressed with him from the 2nd home Saturday night, he beat a 32.26 600y dog home from the 2nd who found himself in a brilliant pitch, again though he will have to prove he can go up with them in races with more early but he is doing all that's asked of him at the moment.

As I posted about Biker on this thread on July 2nd:

As for Biker the other night I thought he ran the 2nd, 3rd and 4th bends terribly, perhaps he may have been feeling something? One thing is for sure I was right to worry about him to the corner, he just doesn't have enough up for me and that race was hardly loaded with flying early.

Again last night I thought he was awful to the corner and on the bends. He broke fine and it's now clear he does not have anything like enough pace to the corner to turn in a good pitch, last night he then totally chucked in going into the corner easing up and dropping to last, he then didn't impress me with how he ran the 2nd or 3rd again. I still wonder if something is troubling him as I thought he ran the bends better on the 23rd of June but he needs a huge step forward as for me that was an average AA0 last night.

One week before the Champion Stakes starts and while there was some nice performances last night it was one rubbish card.
