It sounds more like a BOXING FIGHT than an actual Golf Tournament.....haha.

WELL it’s been 18 years since the EURO TOUR set foot in Belgium as it returns to the 36 hole layout at Rinkven International GC that Hawtree re-designed near Antwerp. “The venue is amazing, the golf course is great" - their using a composite 18 par72 this week - https://www.rinkven.be/en/

After the 6-hole matches (in the World Super 6 Perth and Golf Sixes) we have another new format this week with head-to-head stroke play knockout over 9-holes at the weekend - after the usual 36 hole cut to 64 players.
Thomas Pieters will host the return of European Tour golf to Belgium - as the Pieters' family, with his sister and brother-in-law actually promoting the event. The inspiration when deciding the tournament's format came from Niall Horan (of One Direction fame) who hosted an event with the same format, on the Challenge Tour in Northern Ireland. Three rounds of matches over nine holes will be played on Saturday, whittling down the field to eight, who will return on Sunday for the remaining nine-hole knockout matches. Nicolas Colsaerts, who turned pro in the same year as the last Belgian Open, joins 26yo Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry as the 'local lads' this week. Detry was a spectator for the last Belgian Open, when Lee Westwood won at Royal Zoute Golf Club.

Players can’t afford to shoot big numbers when it gets down to 9-hole contest on Sat/Sun (it's not really match-play) - so watch out for 'the cream' of those that make the cut.

My dough's on RYAN FOX (for T8), and hey let's leave the criticism to Mork and Mindy and the other usual Sunday night knockers.

Unfortunately, Thomas Bjorn had to withdraw due to family reasons. His son was hospitalised and he'll stay with him. "We’re sad that our Ryder Cup Captain won’t be coming over to Antwerp, but are wishing his son a swift recovery!"

To make sure everyone has the best possible time at The BKO, the organisers want to address again that the event is cashless. This means, no cash money will be accepted. Credit cards only.

Apart from 4 'local' amateurs, another of the 11 Belgians in the field is Christopher MIVIS who will be eyeing a good week - sits #112 on the Challenge Tour and #264 in the RtoD. A alternative Netherlands player to watch is Daan HUIZING - ranked #40 on the Challenge Tour and #206 in the RtoD who finished T21 in the Oman Open won by fellow countryman Joost Luiten.

After this week we have the first T60 #OWGR cut off point for the US Open qualification.....Thomas Pieters will need to make it through to Sunday's last 8 to have any chance to qualify (Luiten will need to win).

Meanwhile, Yuta Ikeda 12/1ew needs a 2nd place finish or better in the Kansai Open in Japan to qualify.
