Fascinating market this week. Second week in a row there have been 5 at the top and a massive drop, even more pronounced here where really it's one, then the next four then the rest.
When in the last 5 years would you get anywhere near 12.5 and likely higher on Rory coming in off finishes of 3rd and 2nd where he was a combined 40 under par? New rules this year.
I thought dj would kick on and post 18 or 19 under. the fact that he hasn't makes me think this is still wide open. basically anyone 8 under or better can win it.

would half fancy phil to win but the fact that his first shot is 225 yards on a par five makes me wonder if he gets tired at the end of these tournaments- how can you not pull the driver there

the odds indicate that but don't agree- think someone can still come from the pack. rahm can still have a say in this.

they keep going on about rory playing loads up to the masters which might well be a good idea but is also an insight into his mentality- if he was that confident would he feel the need to play that much?

you might well be right! of course on paper most likely winner is dj with day as his nearest rival. but on a track like pebble can you really be confident of calling it a two horse race!? rahm only four back at the moment

It's the pebble beach course tomorrow and both DJ and JD have the advantage over guys like Rahm having played on it today. Rahm and co will need a few holes to adjust to how the course is playing now.
Can't see one of DJ or JD not scoring 5 or 6 under tomorrow and that should be enough to win.

you might well be right but i hope you're not. johnson only scored two under in the end today when cruising around in four under today and looking likely to shoot six or seven under, so anything is possible. Rahm birdied six holes in a row in his second round at pebble last year. first time he played it.

rahm birdied the last three holes. call me crazy but have gone in on him again at 10-1.
don't fancy day or dj to win at all, funnily enough. again, call me crazy.

Another reason I would be against Rahm is because the last few 3 rounds have been played in a very relaxed manner which for a hot head like him is a good thing. He will be under the microscope a bit more tomorrow so if anyone is likely to blow it up I think it will be him.
Also I know it means very little but this tournament has only ever been won by Americans with the odd Oceanian popping up. I'm backing on another one to hopefully do it again.
Whatever the case it will be a great day tomorrow and hopefully sky don't spoil it too much with their cr4ppy coverage.

I think the biggest certainty of all is that the coverage will be crappy. tbf most of their tournaments aren't too bad this is probably the worst of the lot in terms of coverage.
You're probably right but I just have a feeling about rahm at the moment that he's destined for great things... that's why I put a thread about him up on here... sometimes you have to back your judgement and both dj and day are capable of throwing it in on final day as well
i think you are being a bit harsh about rahm as well. it's because he's been up there so often that we've seen his meltdowns- but is being up there so often a bad thing? it's easy to forget that he's actually won two tournaments in the past four months or so- more than most players. and is the current world number two, knocking on the world number one spot. not bad for a player hardly anyone had heard of 18 months ago.
I'd much rather back him than day who's only one shot better off. think rahm is a better player than day at this moment in time- bit of a bold call but I strongly believe that in a years time we'll be talking about rahm as being the clear world number one and we won't get the prices we're seeing now

I don't think you can take out the advantage of playing PB back to back over the w/e Big advantage to DJ and Day for me. I don't think Rahm will dislodge DJ just yet lr. Still, I like your call on Rahm more than Fowler

We all know what can happen if Day or DJ get a couple of shots clear. What I meant though with Rahm is that if things don't go his way, say the bounce doesn't go for him and he plays a couple of bad shots then his hotheadedness can get the better of him.
I do think he is an exceptional player and once he learns to use his emotions to help and not hinder his game he could be something very special.
Right now though I believe Day is not far off his form from a few years ago, so I'm gonna try make the most of his prices. Speith finding his touch is promising too.

Would love for you to be right. He was a rock star in that period and if he does get back to that point will be the best in the world again imo, even without a drop off from DJ.

dlbdob I agree about Day think he is playing very well at the moment and have also backed him today for the Masters as think he will go very close today.
On another point I think Pat Perez could well win a big tourney this year, might not be today, but have also had a speculative punt at 150s for the Masters, too big imo for the world no 19 who is playing some serious golf after shoulder surgery

Have the sky commentators been reading this thread GL with your bets everyone.
PS did anyone see the end of the world super 6s? The odds on here and some of the bookies were pretty interesting, almost like they weren't sure how to manage the market.

Ted Potter Jnr. Starts the weekend 7 shots behind the world no 1 and mows him down. Just another regular week on the golf. What the feck is going on here

The big names are barely hanging in there. Evens is fair on Potter, but I'd rather be a layer. 16 under could win this given the difficulty of the greens.

Potter is really holding it together well, but it feels like it's just a matter of time before it all unravels for him. The big names haven't shown up today so I'm getting on Merritt and hoping Day places.

I have to say though, if Potter gets this done it is very impressive to get a good rd in the last grouping to win after a very low rd yday - how many times do we see a high rd after a low one, never mind being in the lead after one.

The 34-year-old Floridian Ted Potter, Jr. fired a career & week-low 9-under-par 32-30=62 on Monterey Peninsula CC (finished bogey-bogey as he was well on his way to a 59 - was 11-under thru 16 holes on the par-71 layout) but according gained his first 54-hole lead/co-lead - in his 84th career TOUR start. The two-time Web.com Tour grad is a one-time winner on TOUR in 83 career events, claiming the 2012 Greenbrier Classic during his rookie season. At the Greenbrier, he was solo 6th thru 54 holes (four back), shot 6-under 64 and won a two-man playoff over Troy Kelly. Ted's OWRG #246 will change tomorrow !

I would normally have done my nuts laying Potter on the back 9 - nice to get a win in odd circumstances, but yet again can't get my best winner to land

Not taking anything away from Potters win, but the firmer greens on pebble beach on day 3 compared to day 1 and 2 cost a few guys better scores.
