Back at the daddy of european courses, Valderrama which is Alejandro Canizares  home course

He is in decent form, plays well in Spain and on tough courses and is a much better golfer now than when he posted good finishes on this course previously

40's looks good value

3's top 10

There was talk but haven't heard much since. Australia would be the best, but time zones for TV viewing would never let it happen. Valderrama would be awesome, no Royal Melbourne, but still awesome.

ANDREW - Affectionately referred to as Beef, he started the 2015 season with a bang by finishing third in the Alfred Dunhill Championship in December 2014, just a month after he was crowned the 2014 Challenge Tour Number One.
An eighth top ten of the year at the Grand Final in Dubai confirmed his position at the head of the Rankings, capping a fine season in which he won twice, at the Scottish Hydro Challenge hosted by Macdonald Hotels and Resorts and at Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge.
Provided one of the most-watched moments of the 2015 season when he had a hole-in-one at the BMW PGA Championship and ran towards a friend in the crowd for a chest-bump celebration. Missed the cut in the tournament but left clutching the keys to a brand new top-of-the-range BMW M4.
Brought more entertainment at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open in July, when he holed his second shot on the 18th hole of the third round, then mimicked the trademark sword celebration of Miguel Angel Jiménez, with whom he was playing. The wedge shot from the fairway was later voted the European Tour Shot of the Month for July.
Earned a maiden European Tour campaign through the 2011 Challenge Tour Rankings, only to struggle with form and fitness for the next two seasons before bouncing back in style in 2014. Started playing golf aged four after his father, a single figure handicapper, took him to a field to hit balls and joined North Middlesex Golf Club shortly after. Climbed through the amateur ranks to represent the England Boys team, winning the Boys Internationals in 2007, before turning professional aged 20. Is an Arsenal fan and a keen follower of basketball.

Knew I didn't like him, now I know why Crazy

The host course this week is Centro Nacional de Golf, the Spanish Golf Federation's headquarters, situated in the northern suburbs of the capital city. Madrid is a fine location to re-start the 2018 European Tour, which will continue to cross continents for the next few weeks before settling into a summer of European destinations.

The Leading Contenders

Jon Rahm
There is every possibility that Rahm will gobble this course up. He's knows it well enough, having played it whilst studying in Madrid (it was his golf based in the city). If he can cope with the jetlag after his journey from Augusta, he ought to feel a little like a thoroughbred horse which narrowly failed to overcome a slow start in a prestige race and is now faced with lower grade opposition on an easier track. Teed it up in five regular European Tour events last year: finished top 15 in four, won two.

Rafa Cabrera Bello
One of the rare players in the field who has played in all three top level events hosted by the course, but he'll want to forget every visit! He missed the cut in 2006 on the Challenge Tour, repeated it on the main circuit in 2007 and whilst T43 in 2009 he only once broke 70 in a free-scoring week. All of that said, he's a very different golfer nine years on. T3 in the Mexico Championship reads well against this field, opened with a 69 at Augusta on his way to T38. His 35th stroke play start in Spain yet oddly still yet to beat the T4 he posted on debut back in 2002.
