SEE THE 1st hole on Gullane No.1 is omitted (using the green as the practice putting green and fairway for Spectator Village).
2nd hole becomes the first and so on until the actual 14th i.e. the 13th for this championship. They then jump over onto Course No.2 to play 14th & 15th (the actual 7th & 8th of No.2) before coming back to play 16th (15th on No.1). The 17th & 18th finish is on existing holes 16 (great par 3) & 18 (new tee box well back) of Gullane No.1.

If your going, that area left of the 3rd green (par 3, 4th hole on Gullane No.1) is the place to be.

Local amateur Calum Hill is halfway towards a golfing fairytale after earning a share of the lead with PGA professinal Gareth Wright following the first round of the £50,000 Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open Qualifier at North Berwick.
On a day that started in wet and windy conditions but ended in glorious summer sunshine on the East Lothian coast, the duo carded matching seven under par 64s to lead the chasing pack by one shot heading into the second and final round of the inaugural qualifying event.

With five spots up for grabs in the £3.25m Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open starting at Gullane Golf Club on Thursday, ‘Tartan Tour’ Number One Greig Hutcheon is also in the mix, sitting joint-third alongside Jamie McLeary and Ross Dixon.

Didn't know it was here this year. Really surprised tbh. Have played it a few times and whilst it's a nice course, I don't think it's up to this standard, and there are plenty better in Scotland.

Prefer North Berwick in this area (apart from World Top 10 Muirfield of course) but because Gullane is so open with no great mounds or sand hills to manoeuvre through maybe that's why I like the stretch from 8 to 13 with the lower point of the course being the par 5 12th. Always a good sign of a course too when one can easily remember lots of the holes after a long absence. This year the Scottish Open will feature a great opening hole in the second hole of Gullane No.1.

interesting to see what the pros do to any course you have played

greens and course should be spot on, and i hope they get a lot of
positive feeling about the course(s) and more people go to play
the courses of the area. i loved gullane no2, one of my favourite
courses from my playing days, but i know some people prefer a
sterner test.

A golfing fairytale continues from North Berwick for amateur Calum Hill as he makes one of the five spots to qualify for Gullane.

19 year old Hill, who is a member of Tantallon and former junior champion, lives the length of a par five from North Berwick. His opening 64 was just one shot outside the course record, held jointly by former Masters champion Trevor Immelman and Irishman Colm Moriarty from Open Championship qualifying in 2002 and contained eight birdies, the last of which was witnessed by a large gallery that had followed the local hero over the final few holes.
"I enjoyed it when the crowd started to swell,” said the , who is at the University of Louisiana Monroe and won his first event on the US college circuit earlier in the year.

West Linton professional Gareth Wright, who has qualified for the PGA Cup for the second year in a row, was also pleased with his opening 64 start, having qualified for the 2013 Open Championship at Muirfield on the same course. “Something like that gives you good memories and it’s a course that really suits my eye,” said the Edinburgh-based Welshman after a flawless opening effort.
“It could have been a ridiculous score,” he added, “because I missed from three feet for an eagle at the eighth and another couple for birdies from inside six feet.”

Orkney Islander, Craig Sutherland, claimed victory in the qualifying tournament as he won the sudden-death play-off with a 20 foot birdie putt after returning to the 18th hole with Gareth Wright to secure the first qualifying spot. Sutherland has yet to make an appearance on The European Tour and can’t wait - “Making my debut on my 37th birthday is a pretty good present!

For Hutcheon it will be his sixth appearance in a Scottish Open.

Golf fans in Scotland will be encouraged to turn Gullane Golf Club into a sea of tartan as the official Pro-Am day is designated 'Tartan Wednesday' !
