Best price Southgate was 66/1 by mid-afternoon Tuesday. Pretty much all of the prices claimed are never available to all but those with inside information. The best that others can do is keep an eye om the markets and wait for a big chunk to appear on the right and hope that you have a bookie offering the best price near you, on the assumption that anyone who has done that more than a couple of times online will have been closed down or is severely limited.

thats your opinion and if its based on online prices then yes any book will be aware when the prices are out as are the exchanges but there are ways of getting prices if you are prepared to do the work to get them for instance on june 21 i got these prices for the bmw lorenzo gagli 66-1 laying at 50 and stephan jaeger 125-1 laying at 90 the irish open rafa 20-1 laying at 19 greenbrier russell henley 20-1 laying at 19 danny lee 40-1 laying at 36 (but did drift out on the exchanges to 42)

Report the bloob July 18, 2018 11:19 AM BST
I can remember when it was 1/4 for 4 places, but a lot of bookies would pay out in full on ties for the places. So if there were 5 players tied on 4th place they would ignore dead-heat and pay out in full on the place

for many years it then became 1/4 for 5 places and dead-heat rules, this is probably fairest and meant they could lay fairer prices on outsiders. Now with the silly place terms anybody over 100/1 is massively bigger on exchanges for the win, with the pay-off being the value on the place part of the e/w bet

of course it's the same jedi. because it's only with hindsight that we can see that we should have laid off tiger, but not bothered to lay off molinari.

it's all relative thought. it's not like tiger was ever nailed on to win. he was creeping into even money.

imagine if steve was winning 305k on van der velde. in that situation I'd probably have hired a hitman, to track down the choking frenchman and take him out Laugh
Report JML July 26, 2018 11:22 PM BST
jedi--I'm beginning to understand your thinking now--

only trade if your selection is not going to win and I assume this will be at the lowest price he hits.

Unbelieveable--did YOU really have the nerve to call someone else an idiot?
Report jedi sophie July 26, 2018 11:36 PM BST
Wtf are you talking about?

Steve Palmer suggested he would've won over 300k if TIGER wins the Open..

Likely between 3 and 6 years salary for the chap.

Your calling me an idiot because I suggest he should have traded at least a set amount instead of roaring on Tiger from the sidelines hoping he wins?

At the point Tiger went say 11 2 8 there was around 8 players more within 2,3 shots of lead...

His strategy to sit it out every ****g time won't work, he hung on by his fingernails at Augusta with Reed bets and likely only this made him do the same in The Open.

In my view your talking bollocks, but your entitled to talk bollocks on here many do.HHH.

LR it's nothing to do with hindsight,it's about managing your position, the beauty of the exchange, not like 20 yrs ago when he pops 10k on Tiger and has to see it out win,lose,draw....

You'll likely change your view tomorrow anyway so not too worried what you think. A bit like the scottish weather you.
Report JML July 27, 2018 12:08 AM BST
I didn't call you an idiot after your tiger post.

It was this that made you an idiot----------Molinari won JML.NOT sure how the same.

And the fact that you've totally missed this point only proves that you're not half as clever as you think.

His strategy to sit it out every ****g time won't work, he hung on by his fingernails at Augusta with Reed bets and likely only this made him do the same in The Open.

In the end he'll win exactly the same if bails out or not. There is absolutely no reason why the bailing out
bets should be profitable in the long run. So to say that choosing one way over the other won't work is just stupid.

And you haven't a clue about his circumstances.

Perhaps he decided before the event that he wanted £300K for some special reason and nothing else would do.Maybe it was £200K he needed and he planed to bail out at 1.5.

He could be a PC payer with lifetime profit of £280K and winning £300K would mean not paying PC on his win.

But taking your advice would mean him winning less than £280K and paying PC on the whole lot.
Report jedi sophie July 27, 2018 12:20 AM BST
Actually i do have a clue about his circumstances,he writes about them most weeks and also discusses on the racing post website.According to the man himself he wanted to pay off his mortgage.
Available on his Postcast with his chum Bruce. That's not you is it ?There's no planning or mention of Pc as you suggest just the fact wanted to pay off his mortgage.Dont we ****g all.
I suggest he may have more chance doing so if wasn't in the all or nothing camp. But hey maybe not.
Whatever JML.  As I said your entitled to your opinion,,I disagree.
