Were they tired, the pressure, they looked like England of the last twenty years ,scared of making that mistake. One things for sure we wont get a better chance in my lifetime.

unfortunately when bottle needed they failed the test
it all went our way for the most part in the group; early knock out stages and comparatively the easiest qf & sem-final opponents but we have come up short again

4 years time all the hype will return, and we will be back to playing it square and backwards. Which is a shame because i really enjoyed us having a go from kick off.

i was surprised we got past Colombia and Sweden in terms of bottle, especially the penalties. didn't expect to win today but then the first half we looked so much better, i thought we might. but it's that game of 2 halves adage again. different half time talks and different psychology going into the 2nd half

Tired and lack of ability, not the best combination.

They don't have the defence to sit back on a 1 goal lead against any decent team. Even Colombia equalised when they sat back. If you're going to pass it out from the back with footballing centre halves, as opposed to proper no nonsense defenders, then you need to keep playing attacking football and go for a 2nd goal. But England don't have the creative players to play attacking football at the top level. Another set-piece goal tonight.

a leopard does not change its spots

the way England played is how they've played for years, you cannot change DNA

you cannot change mentality. their mentality is to get a goal and then defend

you have to be the dominant team and England were like frightened rabbits every time they got the ball - Jordan Henderson seemed to think it was a good idea to just boot the ball forward at every opportunity. No guile. No holding of possession.

The same old technical deficiencies which have been around since I've watched England play (20+ years). They can't build up play from the defence. the midfield was non-existent. all the forwards could do was try and win free-kicks. pretty pathetic considering the infrastructure England has, they should be producing far better footballers

They seem to think you just need heart and passion but no technical quality. England got what they deserved

It's not even about bottle, at the end of the day bottle and "heart" and all that fluff will only get you so far in a sport which is a technical game. English players cannot do the most basic of things on a football pitch which win you big games. That's why all the players in the England squad only get in their club sides because they're English, not on merit.

The biggest failing tactically at this World cup was England thinking they could win the thing without a midfield. They had players in the midfield but no play went through it

England has obviously neglected producing midfielders for the last decade or so because there's no one who understands the position and has the tools to play there against the cream of the European crop

England were the 7th best team on my ratings, they got lucky with the draw, they're a losing quarter-final team, they were very lucky to be in the semi-final. let's write it off, put it down to luck, England has to improve their technical skills. They played more like a rugby team than a football team

It is a bit odd that England (population 55 million) were beaten in the knock-out stages
Euro 2016 by Iceland (population 0.35 million)
World Cup 2018 by Croatia (population 4.1 million)

Do England think they can roll over the small nations by just turning up?
There was a thread on here talking about England's chances against France in the final.
