By all accounts and from the highlights I've seen, this is the worst Russian side in many years, if they were a qualifying team they'd probably have finished around 4th and shouldn't be in the tournament by rights, Saudia Arabia last Friday lost narrowly 2-1 to Germany and looked as defensively horrific as I imagined them to be, amazingly Germany's near on full side (bar Ozil) only scored twice when it could have been 15 or 16-1, the hand choppers as they've been affectionately christened on here only scored from the rebound of a very softly given penalty, whilst it may have been Germany, you can tell by the ease at which they got in behind the defence from wide positions time after time.....Uruguay will be running up a cricket score in the second game, but Russia? To give you an idea of their quality, or lack of, 20 of the 23 players in the Saudi squad play at home in Saudi Arabia, interestingly however, their coach is Juan Antonio Pizzi, the Spanish/Argentine who managed Chile to their 2016 Copa America win and Runners Up position in the 2017 Confederations Cup to Germany. Left his job after failing to get them  to the World Cup. He's here anyway, taking the oil money and laughing all the way to the bank, he knows they have no hope of getting out of the group with Egypt and Uruguay nailed on to beat them, still, in this game alone...

You'd have to be a brave soul blindly backing Ruskies at 1.46.

Kind Regards.

Saudi Arabia at 11 is my bet.
Can't have the Russians at 4/9, unless the ref has already decided to give them a few penalties.

''Hand choppers'' Laugh

Isn't part of the reason they play in Saudi Arabia as they get paid so much, same as the Russians? I'm not suggesting they aren't a low standard, but I don't think it's like playing in the Scottish Premier League for example, a league made up of lads that couldn't get a game for teams like Exeter and The Goose and Granite.

Excllent stuff mes.
You wouldnt cross the road to watch this if it were the international break, but no soccer of any meaning for quite a while and this game takes on the stature of a meeting of the gods.
I remember watching the opening game in 2010. In hindsight it wasnt great, south africa v mexico. But it was gripping stuff at the end I recall.
Think it finished 1 each.
Maybe these two can serve up a treat. You never know...

Yep,  Russia are far too short at 1.45.  The pressure on them will be enormous.   LAY.

The Saudi's will need more than Allah to help them when Suarez and Cavani rip them to shreds.

All Allah'll need to do is limit Cavani to five guilt edged chances, as that's normally how many he needs before he hits the onion bag

Russia couldn't really have asked for an easier first game and home advantage/away disadvantage should help them secure the 3 points. However, I'd have them nearer the 1.8 mark so laying them would be the value play. My expectation is for a tight, low scoring game and 4.6 for the draw looks a decent price.

Oh dear Whoops

2016-2017 - Played 36 Scored 35

2017-2018 - Played 32 Scored 28

This coincided with Cavani playing straight through the middle which didnt happen when Zlatan was at PSG.

It's basically the same as taking Mbappes goal scoring record literally now. He's not playing in his favoured position.

fifa will ensure Russia win, but it may take a dodgy 2nd half decision.

ht/ft draw/russia could be the one

I think the only interest in the first game is seeing Russia get beat.
The Russians have been trained to smile.
This might be the first test if the smile training was money well spent.

At odds of 10.5 for the win and 21 for the 1-0 scoreline, anyone who has any betting sense at all will be on Saudi Arabia tomorrow.

It wouldn't be the first time nervy hosts with no quality came up short to a well-drilled, resource-rich underdog.

Just sayin'

Never under estimate home advantage .. you only have to look at odds in club games between two evenly matched teams to see the huge away odds realising even a team as crap as Russia with home backing can be a threat. If the hand/head choppers get confident anythings possible but would not be laying Russia

How are Russia 10s for "Any other home win"?
That is a price of 9/1 that they score four or more goals (and win).
Betfair need to put up a market for Russia to get four or more penalties. Whoops

Yup, Ruskies are far too short but I expect them to be dancing the Jihaddiwaddi at full-time.  2-0, possibly to cash out.

They should appoint a female ref just to see the saudi team trying to keep 10 yards ahead of her.Would have been easy for russia then.
