...  if the pundits on MOTD are correct in what they say.  Will the video ref seriously pull play up every time a penalty SHOULD be awarded?

I thought it only questions a decision that's given
Report jmdc January 8, 2018 5:38 PM GMT
That's what I thought, but it seems it questions a decision of no penalty too:

The role of the VAR is to ensure that no clearly wrong decisions are made in conjunction with the award or non-award of a penalty kick.

Will have no problem in it awarding BHA penalties tonight, until they finally manage to score one....!

so the hundreds of penalties given every season for dives will be removed in future, or will they have some idiot reviewing it and saying there was definite contact and he was entitled to dive.

I can't wait for Dean to be video ref - World War 3 will break out!

Aussie match on this morning... VAR reviewed a goal, which was ruled out after seeing player offside during the lead up to the goal.
Commentators said afterwards that if the ref awards a penalty, or not, whichever the case may be, his decision stands, so there will be no appeal to the VAR, from either side. That's what I think was said anyway.

Outpost... that's the one thing that really gets my steam built up... 'there was contact so he was entitled to go down'
Boils my pi$$.

^ That's the 50/50 scenario, a bit like umpire's call.

the few games ive seen in Germany, italy on tv ,there seems to be more pen decisions overturned by var than given

dunno how video ref can review 15 screens correctly in 40 seconds

looking at all 22 players for fowl play and offside

some folk are good at reviewing pics, others less so, what new qualification is required to
be a video ref, ....?

to agree with the on field decision in most cases, Wink
Report asparagus January 12, 2018 8:24 AM GMT
Less penalties will be given not more. It's easier for a ref to turn down a penalty now knowing that VAR will correct any clear and obvious ones and any debatable ones will be forgotten as play goes on. Referees will naturally be inclined to make less on field decisions.

Very dubious one just given 94th minute of Chaves match in Portugal. Didn't look conclusive (handball) even with slow motion pictures.
Penalty scored to give Chaves a 4-3 victory
