Not long before transfer window opens and although Sir Alex Ferguson says he is not a big fan of the January opportunity, he has been known to come up with the odd surprise!

Newspapers say Pepe Reina is a target. True he is unsettled at United but would he move to United knowing the "rumpus" that caused. Also United have earmarked young Anders Lindergaard as the long time successor to Van Der Sar but Reina much better at the moment.

The other name that keeps getting mentioned at Old Trafford is the Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez. I heard that Inter were going to sign him but he is waiting to see if United move for him first. Not sure about truth in this because Antonio Valencia is making a quicker recovery than first thought and I would have thought Sir Alex might be prioritising  a centre half and midfielder but who knows.

Anderson is starting to show a lot more of his undoubted ability but the defence is key for United if they want another title. Sunderland were not great today but United's defence was absolutely solid, unlike much of this season. Anyway we will find out a bit more at Birmingham on Tuesday as they will be tested a lot more by a fresh side with plenty of time to prepare.

Anyway good luck to fans at all clubs in this festive period. It could go a long way to deciding your season.

Seen an article during the week about Rooneys options for next season and they,re not very appealing .

Everton,

I,d say the club and Rooney would love it but doubt the manager would welcome it.
He likes to play with movement and pace and Rooney doesnt fit that bill any more.
Doesnt need the circus that would follow and the headache of trying to accomodate him in the team.

China,
Massive money but does he need it and the hassle of far flung country with very foreign culture.
Would finish his England career and i doubt he would handle being away from his family.

USA
Better life style but less money and still away from family and an end to international career.

Stoke/W ham
A step down but would probably play every week and a run of goals or a bit of form would probably get him back with England.
A lot less money would be off set by whatever payoff he could get from United to get him off the books.
He has said he would only play for United or Everton though so would have to backtrack on that.

United
Stay and pick up his wages for another year through lack of any real options.
Would likely to feature even less than last season and no chance with England.

I havent a clue which way he will go but if it were me i would forgoe the money and try prove everyone wrong by playing every week at stoke/ W ham.

Ibra not getting a new deal is the right decision imo.

Even were he to be fully fit for the start of the season it might have been best to cut ties unless we couldnt get someone in.

The fact he wont be fit until around christmas time and then would need a period to get match fit would lead you to assume the USA would be perfect for him with their season starting around march i think.

Anyway top man and delighted we had him for a season.

Latest news from the local hacks;

Even though Ibra's contract hasn't been renewed he will stay at United until he gets fit again. They reckon that will be around January next year. Both parties have left it open regarding him signing a short term contract at that time. Obviously that depends on how fit he is and whether the team are short of forwards at that time.

Morata and Lindelof might be flying over this week for talks.

Perisic still of interest and Roma have said they don't want players to stay if they are unhappy.

United been asked if they want to sell Pereira.
Report olddesperado June 10, 2017 5:20 PM BST
Afternoon peter,

That makes sense re. Ibra.
Could be good to have him around the place.

I,d go as far as to offer him a very moderate contract to help out with the coaching and on match days until he,s fit.

He could be a great presence to have about.

If they do consider selling Periera they should think about putting some sort of buy back clause in imo.
Something like getting him for 50% more than we sold him for within a 3 year period if we wanted him back .

The Pogba and possible keane deals should have made Ed realise that.

The bloke is deluded. I thought he'd have learned his lesson by now. I know he's had one good year getting some targets in but I think that was more to do with the agents.

Morinho has told him he wants the transfers to be resolved within a week or two of the window opening.

Watched Morata closely at the Euros, he isn't dynamic or quick enough. Nice footballer, would remind you a lot of Ferdando Morientes, but he is worth abou1/3 of that money and won't be a factor against the real teams, a defender like Van Dijk or basically any mobile and aggressive EPL centre back will eat him alive.

Aubemayang from Dortmund is the man to get if we are going down this line, lightning quick, can make goals for himself from nothing. Older, but Morata isn't going suddenly develop lightning pace and movement off the ball.

The issue last year for me, was that Ibra is very static and wants to come toward the ball, Martial always wanted to come toward the ball from the left, only Rashford had any will to get in behind defenses without the ball, running off the ball. Aubemayang is the more seasoned version of Rashford and the man for him to learn from.

Even Vardy will provide great movement off the ball and a will to get in behind defences, I'd take him over Morata who i thing will flop.

I've seen only clips of the Italian kid from Torino., youtube clips, he looks very ungainly for me, the ball seems to move between his left and right foot unknown to him, he really is one to avoid, a donkey.

I've always had big regard for Jose as a judge, but if he takes these two and jettisons Martial and shaw, I'd be gutted.

I don't think Lukaku's play is good enough with his back to goal to be a centre-forward for a top team. Rather than spending the reputed 130 million on Torino kid and Morata, they'd be better of to try and get Harry Kane. Who holds up the ball great, and has all the attributes Shearer did except the pace of the Newcastle guy in his prime, i think the rest of Kane's game masks this well though.

Team also badly needs a midfield playmaker to operate deep, a Modric type, but they are like hen's teeth and the reason why Arsenal are praying on Cazorla and Chelsea won't sell us Fabregas even though they ain't using him.

Agree completely Duffy, looking at Benzema's age and the fact there have been rumours of him going for years, if Morata was the real thing, they wouldn't countenance selling him. He is the junior partner in a squad of strikers, nice guy to have, but wouldn't hang your hat on him as it looks like united might.

I think the Italian kid could be a seriously embarrassing gaffe if that happens, bet he'll be a perennial sub they'll be howling with laughter at Anfield when the ball bounces off him with his first touch after coming on with 5 to go.

Jesus, a guy with as much talent as Diego Forlan could never truly establish himself at united and he was one of the most beautiful, balanced, skilful, two-footed footballers you could ever find. What chance has a Morata (who doesn't really stand out at anything) or Belotti(who has glaring flaws)?

Here's one you may not have heard, made me smile anyway....

Gabriel Heinze recently told Argie TV a tale about his time at Utd.

"We lost a game and i went in the dressing room first & Roy Keane was second. I liked to go 1st after the game, I didn't want to speak to anyone coz we lost.

"I didn't understand English, just the bad words. I heard my name & fook off by Roy Keane, the best player. I knew that was bad so i stood up to him, this idol of Manchester, this great guy who everyone loved and replied:'Fook off you'. I don't remember what happened next.

Did he punch you ? Did he knock you out ?

"Yes. Yes."
Report neill d June 11, 2017 10:10 PM BST
Lol, Its funny, if you put heinze's attitude with forlan's talent, we'd have had a Golden Boot winner. Fair play to Heinze, he didn't have the talent of some guys (Evra took the position to another level) but he was a man, and that can carry you a long way.

Would pay good money to see Keane v Heinze.

Think the issue with the third option is that physically Rooney is shot. So what the rest of his career boils down to is trying to extract as much cash as he can, if they can't flog him to China or the US (I don't think anyone in America will match his money), he will might just sit it out where he is.

Jose wants to free up the wages for sure, but he can't give him the Bastien treatment surely?

I think that's where its going to get ugly Dessie, I think he wants to replace him, nae, knows he has to, and has earmarked that money. Jose may have to turn c*nt to get Rooney out, even threaten the Bastien treatment.

All he has to do is comment on his body shape, BMI something like that, and sent him to the 23s. The media would crucify jJse, but I believe he has budgeted to free that money up with the number of targets mentioned.

But I think the fans would back Jose on this, this is the guy that held United to ransom because he could, now United are in a situation where they no longer need or want him, but are wed to him by that ridiculous contract they gave him, so I think the fans would back Jose if he did whatever it took to free up that money, United are rich, but it isn't a bottomless pit!

he let him get the record, but the way he used Rooney after showed Jose doesn't want him. He is overweight btw and while the statistics you quote look quite attractive, the quality of performances have been poor.

On top of Morata we need another top striker. We also need to see Rashford kick on and Martial to get his act together.

Was thinking the same thing, looked a complete different player tonight, maybe something to do with the extra quality around him allowing him to relax a little and come out of his shell, with United he's under pressure from the get go to have to do a lot of it himself and ends up retreating from it.

I wish the Coates family would come back from holiday and get this Rooney deal over the line before i have to apologise to Dessie.

I see hes back in training early and the last time he tried to get fit was when he wanted to join Chelsea so hopefully he wants to fcuk off again.

Fingers and toes etc crossed anyway.
