Not long before transfer window opens and although Sir Alex Ferguson says he is not a big fan of the January opportunity, he has been known to come up with the odd surprise!

Newspapers say Pepe Reina is a target. True he is unsettled at United but would he move to United knowing the "rumpus" that caused. Also United have earmarked young Anders Lindergaard as the long time successor to Van Der Sar but Reina much better at the moment.

The other name that keeps getting mentioned at Old Trafford is the Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez. I heard that Inter were going to sign him but he is waiting to see if United move for him first. Not sure about truth in this because Antonio Valencia is making a quicker recovery than first thought and I would have thought Sir Alex might be prioritising  a centre half and midfielder but who knows.

Anderson is starting to show a lot more of his undoubted ability but the defence is key for United if they want another title. Sunderland were not great today but United's defence was absolutely solid, unlike much of this season. Anyway we will find out a bit more at Birmingham on Tuesday as they will be tested a lot more by a fresh side with plenty of time to prepare.

Anyway good luck to fans at all clubs in this festive period. It could go a long way to deciding your season.

For United fans looking for a 19th title-  BELIEVE

I cannot understand the endless debate about why Mourinho was negative, he was pragmatic and realistic, United aren't good enough to "go for it", Mourinho didn't play defensively for the sake of it, even though that's his stereotype, he played that way because he knows his team can't play fluent quick passing football and go toe to toe with a team that can.

At the start of the season he added to the squad and wanted the parts to click, now, despite some of the 4-0 scorelines, the truth is that United are ponderous in possession and lack that "menace" when going forward. If United were clicking like the noisy neighbours, Mourinho would have gone to Anfield and had a tear up.

What sets Mourinho apart is his pragmatism and despite the weight of expectation of playing the United way on his shoulders is strong enough to accept the limitations of the team and be prepared to go about it ugly when necessary.

Of course it's a long season and things can change but anyone who DOESNT think City will win the league needs escorting back to their padded cell quick smart, they're not their yet by a long stretch but we're starting to see a resemblance to the great Barca side, not so much by yesterday's result but by the way they hammered Chelsea 1-0, the Barca quality was akin to a Boa constrictorSilly that simply does not give you room to breathe with the way they win the ball back off of you so quickly, so even in a defensive performance like United's yesterday, the relentless pressure allied with the fluent accurate passing is sure to break any defence down sooner or later.

Incidentally, Mourinho would play the exact same way at OT as Anfield IMO, we've already identified his pragmatism and acceptance of his sides limitations, I'm sure he doesn't think they'll somehow be transformed into a fast paced fluent attacking force at home just because 60,000 want them to be so.

Agree with a lot of that duffy.

Don’t want to believe the paragraph about City because that would be unbearable. I cling onto the way that Pep seemed to lose it with the media and English football generally last season. He seemed ready to walk. We need something to trigger that again Grin

Great post duffy. I am on at 2/1 and although not happy to collect, nor certain to, I am obviously extremely confident. They're miles ahead of us and we are going to have to luck our way and play ultra negative in derbies to somehow win it.

Report Angela Rebecchi October 15, 2017 10:20 PM BST
My main fear is we have been faster and more fluid this season, hopefully we can return to such ways outside of big matches. I also have to think that if we did go for it, sure sometimes we lose, but sometimes we win, I think our points expectancy would increase AND I also think it would give us more confidence going forward say if we did win at Anfield.

Bit annoyed about that because TON tried to charter a plane for us but could only get a one night stay on the Wednesday and then fly back Thursday. Most of ours wanted to stay there both tuesday and Weds or at least on Tuesday and then fly back after the match. He couldn't get that and decided to cancel the trip altogether as Thomas Cook were doing the Tuesday nighter and loads booked with them.

A few days after he'd cancelled TC also cancelled their one nighter and the people like your mate were stuck with them on the day trip.

Evening DeSS, has Rooney scored or something? Devil

Spot on re Lovren, not a lot said about it by fans or pundits alike because he wasn’t wearing a United shirt. Embarrassing wasn’t it?

I thought Coutinho tried to con the ref when he went over for the penalty shout. He purposely moved his left leg into the defender so he could go over.

Ashley Young used to do that every week a couple of years ago.

Report the_don October 16, 2017 8:16 PM BST
To be honest Salah tried winning a pen in the 1st half with a clear dive, seen by the ref yet he did nothing about it.

Lovren a bit embarassing but nearly all the players are at it these days, trying harder to get people sent off than they are to score etc. And I include Utd players in that. Why they can't punish players for clear cheating after matches is beyond me.

Or this one; 'Being Liverpool', a fly-on-the wall Documentary about Liverpool F.C.

Steve Wilson BBC football journalist gives his view:

"American TV network Fox Sports has had its cameras following Liverpool's every step since the back end of last season.

Presumably the rationale behind the documentary was to heighten awareness of the brand in their owners' home market; to make Stevie G and Co stars Stateside.

'This will be an amazing opportunity for our fans to see a new side of the club," said chairman Tom Werner.

Nice idea .....on paper.

First the cameras captured Liverpool capitulating in the race to qualify for the Champions League, then Liverpool losing the FA Cup Final. They then saw Liverpool sacking Kenny Dalglish and appointing Brendan Rogers before the side were thumped in their opening game of the new campaign.

The cameras pack and wrap after the match against Manchester City next weekend - perhaps it's just as well." Laugh
