Gibbs, Wilshire, Walcott and Ox the first 4 to cull. No longer can you have so many players who cant play 6 games in a row without breaking down.

Arsenal must have the weakest (physically - could be argued mentally as well) squad in the division, when they walk out against Chelsea next week regardless of the final score, Arsenal will look like they are fielding an under 15 team from a distance. Barcelona were a freak not a model to base yourself on. they will be dominated be a much stronger team. Sadly this is where one of their "wold class" players begins to look average. Ozil needs players around him who are strong and protect him, which is what happens when he pulls on a Germany shirt, Arsenal dont have enough energy and strength in the team to accommodate Ozil, which is sad because he is a fantastic footballer.

In January I outlined the future for Arsene Wenger re the stay or go debate. To recap the Board and fans have different  priorities and objectives. For fans this is to win the premier league and do well in the Champions league, that is  get past February a task which is invariably beyond Arsenal..For the board the emphasis logically and rationally should be profitability which means competing   in the Champions league each year.Conservatively this is worth about £50m. each season. If Arsenal happen to win a trophy, that is any trophy then that is a bonus.AW has performed magnificently delivering Champions league football every year for the last 20 years. In essence it could be said that AW has singlehandedly built the Emirates stadium  via the Champions league receipts and for that all Arsenal fans should be grateful

However nothing is permanent and as Arsenal will not be in the Champions league next season and therefore  profits will take a hit of at least £30m+ once Europa league receipts are taken into account, this is probably the opportune time to arrange for AW to step aside.Expect a decision after the cup final.

If Fergie had our team in 2004, we would've done the treble.
Report Blackrock May 23, 2017 8:18 PM BST
It's often said that we shouldn't be expected to win the league as we are the 4th richest club in England, so finishing 4th is what we should expect. Our financial muscle is way above Tottenham and Liverpool, so finishing in the top 4 is pretty much a guarantee really. In past seasons we have been heavy odds on favs to do so.

So if Wenger is astute as many claim, then a championship challenge should be expected, even if we don;t win it.

No championship challenge has materialised for many moons now. If this downward trend continues, fans won't be so willing to keep paying for season tickets at an exorbitant price, and gaps will be the norm on the terraces at Arsenal. Is that really what Kroenke wants?

enpassant - noted and I'll retract prissy. Will keep sense of entitlement though. Point is, under Wenger you've had an almost unbroken run of top 4 finishes and decent runs in the CL until you come up against a better team. You've won the FA Cup twice in recent years and were runners up last year.

I just think the idea that you should be doing better is iffy. Why should you exactly?

Even now, after finally missing out on the top 4 you've got another cup final in a few days...

All that said, his goose is clearly cooked now. Just a question of if he digs his heels in and just drags it out far longer than it could be.

1 - the person with the power at the club has a desire to win things. Kroenke does not. He stated this and the decline of his teams and the way in which that decline comes about, is there for all to see. So, Kroenke out.

2. Arsene Wenger , as stated above has not got the best out of any set of players for 10 years or so. He has been given 3 or so seasons, with no excuses, to show he can improve a side and the team is in consistent decline. Thus, Wenger out.

We should be doing better because Liverpool and City are poor sides. So are Man U and have been for years. Chelsea are good this year and the last year they won the league but poor other years and none of those sides had any success in Europe. The PL has been weak for about 6 years, you can see that in Europe where they used to dominate the CL. And I'm not even talking about Real, Barca, Bayern - English clubs are not even close to touching them. I'm talking about Atletico Madrid, Dortmund, PSG and the like who have all surpassed England's top sides over the last few years despite English clubs having more and more money year on year. Spurs and Leicester shouldn't be finishing ahead of Arsenal either if you are going purely on finance and the ability to attract top players with CL football but they have shown that having a good manager can trump all of that. It's a nonsense argument spun by the media and swallowed whole by mugs. No club can strive to punch above their weight because .... money. Drivel, that's not what football is about for a real fan.

Wenger single-handedly built the stadium - absolute media hype nonsense. The stadium was built through debt, paid by the club. A Stadium build is an infrastructural project the job of a CEO/CFO to manage. Is Pocchetino managing Spurs new stadium build? No, he is paid to manage a team of players. If Wenger had any major input then he was neglecting his duties as manager and shouldn't be praised for that. He was paid 8m a year to manage a group of players. The performances of the team for the 11 years we've been in the stadium haven't been good enough, he certainly was neglecting his duties, like making the team solid defensively etc etc which everyone knows it hasn't been for one second since 2006.

In any event the stadium has been a complete failure other than on the financial side because the fans are being milked and the success and competing with Europe's top teams that was promised hasn't happened. It's the same with any new stadium, the real fans prefer the old ground. They are sold the idea of a lovely new ground and the atmosphere is never as good, prices go up, and the ground is full of 'prissy' middle-class and corporate 'fans' who would never have stood on a terrace with the great unwashed. Holding up A4 sheets as banners, this type of blow-in fan.

This argument that we are fourth richest so should finish fourth is the argument of an accountant looking only at financial performance for a season and not watching a minute of football and I'm sick of hearing it. City have never had a great side despite all their money. They had two leagues handed to them on a plate after they had choked leads late in the season. Those sides were poor and the Europeans showed that when they went into Europe. Chelsea have been poor for at least 3 of the last 6 years. United the same. Why can't we strive to do better than those sides? We can and real Arsenal fans can see that and do strive for that, it's just that the board and Wenger do not - they set out for 4th every year and not to win major honours. That is the problem, try 10+ years of that at your club and come back to us.

Arsenal were a massive club before Wenger arrived and would have won leagues and built a stadium without him. The club is in turnkey condition for a proper manager to come in and win leagues and go deep in Europe but the board and Wenger are holding that back.
Report JUDGE JUDY May 24, 2017 2:09 PM BST
Of course he didn't build the stadium. Absolute nonsense

He might have had a hand in it by designing dressing rooms or the airflow for the pitch but that's about it

I think one of the main reasons of his failure recently is his loyalty to average players

Players like Walcott Ramsey Coq (Who at one stage was struggling at Charlton Athletic) etc etc

Can you imagine Slur  Alex putting up with these players ?

Arsene Wenger "does not know" if Saturday's FA Cup final will be his last match as Arsenal manager.

The Frenchman, whose future will be decided at a board meeting after the game, has been Gunners boss since 1996 but his contract expires this summer.

On Sunday he said uncertainty over his future did affect the club's form this season, but he again refused to expand further before the match with Chelsea.

"I want to win the cup for my club and that's all I care about," he said.

"Would it be a nice farewell? No, what I want is to win the next game. It's not about me, it's about us winning the trophy and giving everything to achieve it."

Wenger has won three Premier League titles and six FA Cup finals during two decades at the north London club, but this season he has faced fierce protests from fans calling for him to quit.

By finishing fifth in the Premier League, the Gunners failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.

Gabriel and Koscielny out of FA Cup final
Arsenal are not for sale - Kroenke
Should Arsenal win Saturday's match at Wembley, Wenger will claim his seventh FA Cup - matching the number of times Liverpool and Chelsea have won it in their entire history.

When asked on Wednesday if it would be his last game as Gunners boss he replied: "I don't know. It will not be my last match anyway because I will stay in football.

"I want to win the cup because I think the team has redressed very well the situation on the sporting side. It would be a good crowning of what we have done in the last two months."

'I always had to sell our best players'

Chelsea won the Premier League this season - the fifth time they have done so under the ownership of billionaire Roman Abramovich, who has spent heavily since taking control in 2003.

Blues boss Antonio Conte is reportedly to be granted £200m to spend on new players this summer.

Following the news of Alisher Usmanov's failed £1bn takeover bid Wenger was asked about Arsenal's comparative financial power.

"It's not all about money, football," he said. "It is important but it's not everything. I guided this club for years with very limited resources, I had to always sell our best players.

"Some clubs are stronger than us yes, but now I believe we are in a position to compete and we have a strong enough basic squad to compete at the top level."

Hopefully whoever comes in at the back just give it 100% effort. Holding has def shown he can push the established c/h,s for a starting place in the future imo.
Midfield 2 will obv be Ramsey and Xhaka, don't agree with Ramsey but there ya go, who will be the front man? Welbeck was woeful the other night but he will prob be in again in front of Giroud who has prob been more of a danger from the bench this season anyway. TW14 been left in the cold recently, by his standards he has a decent return of goals but as a winger and therefore a provider for others he has been awful, bench warmer at best.
Hopefully somehow Chelsea haven,t blown us out of the water inside 60 mins and the game is still up for grabs late on, if so then the bench could be key for us. Wenger.  Funny-sad or funny ha-ha?

Watching him talking about how he really believes this squad can win a title when it can only scrape a point away anywhere decent with a wedge of luck and a last-minute equaliser.  When it contains a bunch of ageing players that are in the main fringe internationals (if anyone can be bothered to cap them any more).  When one of his alleged best players can't be bothered against good opposition.  Third best team in London with no sign of improvement

"I had to sell my best players".  Spurs sold Bale, better than anything Wenger has offloaded since Henry, and they now have a much better squad than Arsenal without breaking the bank.

"No-one can doubt my love for the club".  For sure.  I don't doubt the love that Adams or Henry has for Arsenal either, but neither of them are suggesting they should be first choice any more.

On form Chelsea should win this in a canter, and they would have to have a massive off-day not to take this easily, even 3-0/4-0.  Arsenal are in the final because they played two non-league sides and got fairly lucky against a City side that was itself in patchy form.  In a way I hope it's swift and clinical and that it brings change where it's needed most

Yes in 2014 and 2015 because things were supposed to change afterwards
But beating relegated Villa clearly meant the side just needed a keeper to win the league and we got fewer points in 2016 (including the 12 that Cech was supposed to bring with him)

Today I would take a season-defining smack-in-the-face defeat, where there is no chance to show spirit next Saturday by beating Hull at home or Boro away, no chance to change tactics or showcase players coming back to fitness.  Just a good shoeing at the hands of a hated rival on a big stage that says that time is up.

Wenger has no edge any more.  He can't motivate the players he has got and he can't get hold of the ones he needs; his type of player will want to join Guardiola and he needs ten stabs at buying defensive players to buy one half-decent one.

Short-term pain, long-term gain

Arsenal missed out on Champions League qualification for the first time in 20 years after finishing fifth in the Premier League but has a two-year contract on the table ready for him to sign should he decide to stay at the club he has been at since 1996.

Wenger is bidding to become the most successful-ever FA Cup manager on Saturday afternoon as he looks to lift his seventh FA Cup but has said the anger and fury aimed at him this season is something he “will never forget”.

“I don't mind criticism because we are in a public job,” he told BBC Sport's Football Focus.

“I believe there's a difference between being criticised and being treated in a way that human beings don't deserve."

“The lack of respect from some has been a disgrace and I will never accept that. I will never forget it.

“The behaviour of some people during the season, that is what hurts me most. It's not my person that is hurt but the impeccable image of the club around the world. That kind of behaviour does not reflect what Arsenal is.

Wenger doesn't keep any medals to focus fully on future with Arsenal
“A strong club is a club that makes a decision. It is wrong that in modern society it is not a question of whether a decision is right but whether it is popular. That has nothing to do with competence. People with responsibility have to make the right decision.”

All flights to and from Heathrow and Gatwick have ben suspended until 6 o' clock, apparently. A computer system failure being blamed. Nothing to do with the game, but thought I'd mention it anyway, in case any of you had charterd a private jet to get to the game. Grin
