Queen Mum
Special Tiara 178
Fox Norton 178

The best display ever from the winner.

Ryanair Chase
Un De Sceaux 174
Sub Lieutenant 170

I doubt the winner was at his best but the runner up needs to be pushed.

Gold Cup
Sizing John 175
Minella Rocco 172
Native River 172

Cue Card was never going to win. Un drole d'oignon! as they say in Paris.

Queen Mum Chase

13 Mar 17 19:15
Fox Norton 0+
Douvan +2+
Special Tiara +4
Sir Valentino +6
Gods Own +7
Simply Ned +8

The top figure is risky of course but the conclusion to be drawn from our figures is that Douvan should be taken on.
What can we lose ?
Special Tiara and Gods Own could make it interesting even if the top one flops. Sir Valentino has been improving too. If his last piece of form was for real he would be further up the list. There is no way of telling if it was but 50/1 is tempting.

The Gold Cup

Cue Card 185
Djakadam 180
Smad Place 175
Overlander 175
Sizing John 174
Champagne West 173+
Empire Of Dirt 173
Irish Cavalier 172P
Minella Rocco 172
Native River 171
Bristol De Mai 170+
Tea For Two 169
More Of That 167+
Saphir Du Rheu 166+

I am with Cue Card , Champagne West and Bristol De Mai. I could not get a decent price for Djakadam so I think I will stick.
If I do back another it will be Smad Place as he is over priced on his best efforts .

Tenor Nivernais may have been a fit up.
Vieux Lion Rouge goes up , see GN ratings.
Shantou Flyer goes up provisionally.

Cue Card won nicely in the end but I am bound to say that my heart would not have stood the strain had I laid the odds for money. If it was a case of "final touches" The Gold Cup is his barring a fall. We will see.

If he is back to top form then the running of Shantou Flyer is of interest. Assume for one moment that the Tenor Nivernais form is correct and you have two big improvers coming from the race won by Foxhill something or other. He , therefore , is one to keep an eye on.
Now the bollocks about Cue Card running below par behind Thistlecrack because he made a race of it. Twaddle first class! The same was said about Royal Regatta yesterday. At Kempton Two For Tea made a race of it with  both Thistlecrack and Cue Card and ran up to form. Unadulterated crap spoken by cretins who claim to be journalists.

Blaklion ran well but was beaten a long way out. To his credit he put up a fight but the Pipe horse had him well beaten at the line. Blaklion's trainer is not one to leave the big pot on the trial ground. Further improvement can be hoped for. Seeing that he has run to his previous best any small improvement might give him place chances in The Gold Cup.

Champagne West has been taken out of the Ryanair. If it was not a clerical error it might mean that there is increased confidence in his chances. I live in hope , probably, only to die in despair.

I will tidy this up later and we only go to Triolo D'Alene at this stage.
The interesting ones for me are Foxrock , Carlingford Lough and Blaklion.
The speculative bet would have to be Cocktails At Dawn. Take a look at his works you mighty and despair!
200+ on here.
Like Blaklion , Drop Out Joe could have the rug taken off very soon.
EDIT: On the whole it looks like a pretty tight handicap. A handful of outliers but overall quite snug.
The idea that Don Poli will not run seems to be stretching things somewhat. A few hasty words uttered after a tiresome business lunch perhaps?
However the 8lb extra the handicapper has given Highland Lodge has effectively ruined that horse's chance and , if Highland Lodge runs , the chance of one other entrant. Stupidity! Moffatt should be fuming not our Gordon and Co.

I am trying to keep the figures up to date but logging in to this site usually causes my computer to freeze.

Carlingford Lough 0
Don Poli +3
Minella Rocco +4
Road To Riches +5
For the Denman just leave them as they were since Bristol De Mai was never at the races. Altior has to go on 183+P and will be better when he learns to jump properly. He will murder Douvan once he gets his act together.
In Ireland the result was somewhat mystifying. Carlingford Lough was very easy to back , Don Poli might have been there to be beaten since the National weights are published this week and Empire Of Dirt holds the form back even further. To be generous I will slot Sizing John in at 174.
