Lisa Ashton been playing on the PDC Challenge Tour.  Won 18 matches and lost 12, which is very impressive!  That's prolly better than half the blokes in the BDO field could achieve.

I backed Telnekes at 200/1 and 250/1 a few days ago.  The rising star of Dutch darts.  Just won the BDO Dutch National title last month, which included all of the Dutch boys here except Noppert, and another title a week ago. In fact he seemed to be mopping up similar tourneys, which included many current and former Dutch BDO stars.  Only played 8 events on the BDO circuit in his first season but still managed 1 victory and 3 semi final placings so had to qualify via the qualifiers where he beat among others Soutar (top of the county averages last season) Van Baalen (who qualified last year)and Parletti (who subsequently reached the finals of the three BDO ranking tourmnaments he played in)

Clydebank; Telnekes did well to qualify but rarely averages much above 80 and his Belgian Open win was a poor field where he averaged 81.62 to win it. He has only one major semi final to his name.

Of much more interest to me is Jeffrey Sparidaans @ 150/1. Put a separate post up about him but this guy has reached 4 finals (winning 2 inc. a whitewash in the final of the English classic in September) in the last few months and has beaten most of the fancied runners along the way. He has a higher BDO and DDB ranking to boot and has proven he can average mid to high 90's so boasts some good scoring power.

* which was a category A+ event
Report CLYDEBANK29 January 4, 2018 5:36 PM GMT
Sparidans should be fave to beat Nilsson imo.  He looks a decent pick, but I'm pretty sure Telnekes is the better prospect of the two.  The Belgium Open was a pretty strong field Hughes, Mitchell Waites Adams McGeeney etc.  Yes the average in the final was poor, but he clearly is much better than that and must have played better than that to reach the final.  He beat Sparidaans in the qf of the Czech Open in  and averaged over 92 in the semi final loss to Mitchell despite missing at least 7 darts for the match.  He averaged 89 in the final of the Dutch National which he won (Sparidaans beaten by Harms in the qf) last month.  The BDO Trophy was won with an average under 90 so it might not take much
Report CLYDEBANK29 January 4, 2018 5:54 PM GMT
His results to me suggest he is around a 90 average player now.  With the exception of Durrant and perhaps Noppert, the best of the rest are only around that level and several are easily around 80.  He's very young and inexperienced and appears to be in form and improving.  Anyhow his price has contracted by two thirds and he has a particularly tough looking draw to me, as has Sparidaans.  Durrant especially and Hughes have been very fortunate with the draw.  Noppert has got a bit lucky too with Hurrell withdrawing.  An extra match but a couple of very easy introductory matches on paper.
Report CLYDEBANK29 January 4, 2018 6:12 PM GMT
Dunno if that will load properly, but that is the later stages of the Czech Open in November, with averages for the semi and final.

Shows how much notice i've taken of this bdo extravaganza.

Playing in all day darts comps is a test of endurance.
The day begins with 100's in attendance, 10 deep at the bar and the oche.
This drops round by round.
Come the latter stages the only ones remaining are family, friends, the driver,
a section of piss heads who tend to stay the bar, the ref and markers.

8 hrs later the final begins.
The finalists are overly pissed and playing in front a near empty venue.
Can't see how this can elevate or encourage players to be motivated to the max.

Welcome to the bdo.
Report DartsnBooze January 4, 2018 7:20 PM GMT
I've posted the averages theory before...I'm sure it's still freely avaiable to find with a bf search.

Low 80's averages in the bdo is not as bad as the stats appear.
15 darts = 100 ave
18 darts = 83.5
21 = 71.57

It comes down to those players capable of breaking throw in 15 & 18 darts to win sets.

Over the years the averages have increased in both codes.
As I no longer play i've backed away from the pdc v bdo debate.
Any dart player having the balls to toe the oche on tv gets my support.

Those who call for the bdo to end have to remember the pdc is a limited club of 128.
Then there's the challenge and youth tours, and pdc euro tours.
All total up to around 500.
Darts is played by millions in the UK alone.

The bdo website sums up how dated the entire set up is.
They need to find a way of moving darts forward. Playing
county darts in a near empty room is not the answer.

Are any forumites on here still playing or played county darts? Devil

Clydebank, Jeffrey Sparidaans has averaged over 95 several times in SF and Finals the last few months. Averaged 97.53 when he beat Jamie Hughes 5-1 in the English Classic.
