An eventful opening night with both selections copping.
Day One +1.46pts profit.

I said I wouldn't do it but I have. Another time consuming preview ahead of tonight's action.
This time with the aide of piping hot stew, mince pies, and a glass or two of cider.

Day 2: Tonight sees the first of the prelim matches. Some have been quality down the years, others not so. A highlight with the fans in attendance as they embrace and latch on to some of the lesser knowns. Taylor in his last pdc worlds, the Bullet & dancing Dimitri, along with new kid Voltage, makes for a night of flying sparks. Puns ahoy!

Friday December 15 (7pm)

11/8 Seigo Asada v 4/6 Gordon Mathers (Prelim match - Best of 3 sets)
Asada (Japan) previously played in bdo world champs.
Mathers (Australia) qualified via the oceanic route.
Though Corey Cadby (remember him?!) claimed the most money, it was Mathers who accrued the most points to top the table. In the betting, Mathers odds have lengthened from an opening 4/9 to 4/6. Asada now 11/8 from 7/4.
A match to watch and enjoy - No bet

4/6 Stephen Bunting v 5/4 Dimitri Van den Bergh
Bunting has gone from being another fickle dart player thinking about quitting following a succession of losses, to regaining some form (confidence is the word most used) that took him to the top in the bdo. RVB must surely portion some of the blame as his infamous welcome to the "best of the best" club speech broke the man. It also gained a top 10 place in an unseen poll amongst forumites.

Dimitri when throwing has the look of someone caught in the headlights, like he'll crumble at any moment. In fact it's quite the opposite. A quiet unassuming talent who blitzed RVB with a 10 darter to seal a win in a world series match. Barney's respectful congratulations was good to see. Dimi maintained his high level to become the current world youth champion (averaged 101 in the final.) He's become one of the young rising stars who could actually go a long way in the game. Part of the ever expanding team macca camp who's ethos is an all togetherness and support of each other. A win = steaks all round, while a loss = egg and chips. Both are big lipstick hitters in what is a close looking match.
Selection - Over 8.5 180's @ 4/5 sportsbook 1pt

1/6 Phil Taylor v 11/2 Chris Dobey
Taylor steps onto the ally pally stage in what is his final event with the pdc. He seems to take his retirement year in his stride (tipped as a @ 25/1 rag with baldy for a trip down memory lane to win the matchplay) and not be overawed by the occasion. A remarkable career with an unrivaled will to win spanning so many years it's far surpassed ridiculous. A knack of steam rolling up and coming players (or all players for that matter) and sure to average around the 100 mark.

Dobey is another player pleasing on the eye and though not in Taylor's pocket, could be an occasion where he succumbs to the master. A talent along with a tendency to miss too many doubles that will be punished. Taylor wears players down with constant leg on leg pressure and I see nothing but a clean sweep, regardless who throws first.
Selection - Phil Taylor to win 3-0 sets @ 5/4 gen 1pt

1/40 Rob Cross v 28/1 Seigo Asada/Gordon Mathers
Danger! Danger! High Voltage! Rob Cross is the new kid on the block and a name on everyone's lips - A total revelation to the game and a pleasure to watch. Whilst he's learning to adjust to the pressures of the big stage his form has been nothing short of sensational. A phenomenon who is drawn to meet MVG in the semi final. Plays to winner of the opening match prelim. No bet

Just the two selections again tonight in what is always a tough ask in the first round to find profits, along with the odd market rick to exploit.
Enriched 1st Round stats will appear alongside 2nd round matches

Steaks all round for Dimitri and the gang. What a performance!

won some money after reading this on yesterdays forum  ...cheers dano for pin pointing it :)                                                                                                                                                       Danno    14 Dec 17 21:32
Great write up DnB.  Well done on the Wilson 180's.
Hope this forum can keep up some good darting chat and betting tips throughout.

My own contribution is a shout for one of tomorrow's matches.  Dimitri vd Bergh to k.o Family Guy Bunting.  Former won the world youth champ and is a solid nerveless thrower.  Bunting this year has been consistently below the standard that got him into the Premier League.  I'm on at about 2.26.

How on earth did Mathers qualify over Cadby? Either Mathers didn't perform to his level or Cadby must have been very poor.

If Dobey can't win the set on throw with Taylor playing like that he hasn't got much hope.

Dobey hasn't got much hope if he can't even win a set on throw with Taylor playing like that.

The darts in between the 180s in this match are utter dross. Dobey has 3 but is averaging 82 over 7 legs, and his finishing has been good to, tells you how bad the rest has been.

Cross has ditched the Sparks classic for Deta's walk on song.
Feeling hot hot hot...

Cross is a top player.  Had an average well over 100 there.  He is the new kid on the block
