I was watching the darts last  was night and Wayne Mardle said 'This is the first time that Phil Taylor has been odds on to win the PDC title'. I tweeted him saying  that he's wrong. He replied by saying I
was wrong. I'm a long in the tooth punter and I'm pretty sure that he was 1/2 or even shorter for some of the titles between 1997 & 2006. Does anybody know where I can source the info' to prove my point with Mardle. Thanks for any info

He's been odds-on loads of times. The only way I can think of to prove it, is to look at old Racing Posts or their Ads.
Alternatively, you could just let it go and know that Mardle's got it wrong.

Cheers for the reply STUDYFORM. Trouble is Mardle is a bit of a know it all and I'd love the evidence to prove him wrong

bf data jan 2005 - taylor never traded odds against in the outright all tournament

most likely sp was 1.70ish or slightly lower

Clear as day - Taylor 4/9 in '05.

Also 1/2 in '09.

It was a bizarre claim from Mardle. He knows his way round a betting slip, so I was very surprised he was so far wide of the mark. Taylor was odds on for nearly everything for years and years.

The betting references on sky are getting more and more cringeworthy. Bristow just tips favs and trebles them up despite regularly suggesting his 1/3 tip has a tough game and its 50/50.

Last night, they all couldnt believe their eyes at 5/2 (ish?) Welge when it was a clear graphics error.

If they are going to make so many gambling references they should brush up a bit. I dont expect them to be mega shrewd, but at least make it seem they have an idea!

And I forgot about Harrington, who can look at the top 8 in the betting and be convinced that 6 of them are great value despite saying the odds on fav is a certainty.

Didn't see it but from what you've said at least they spotted 5-2 Welge would have been a great (losing) bet.

Not that I give two hoots but it's pretty poor Harrington getting involved in anything relating to betting given his position.

All very well pandering to sponsors but did Dickie Davies pass the Embassy Filters around the studio in the old days?

Cheers for the replies. Wayne tweeted me today and said 'I'm sorry for my shortcomings'
Fair play to him for admitting that he got it wrong. Still rather surprising that a punter (which Wayne is) would get it so wrong.

Wasn't there a geezer on here a few years ago claiming to be Wayne?
Had a moniker like Toby Toby? Confused

Shocking error from Mardle. Taylor @ odds on paid for many of our chrimbo's, and summer hols Grin
