With all of the teams nearing final selection, who do you think will ride well in the 2018 Tour de France ? What teams are targeting which Jerseys ? Will Froome be Victorious or will he be beaten, is there another Great Champion about to emerge ? What are your thoughts on individual riders ? I am a club rider myself and follow the Grand Tours, I will be happy to discuss and listen to opinions and will publish my 10 to follow not just for the overall Yellow, but for other categories too. It should be a great race.....

Hey guys,
I am working during the day, and with an early start I have to get to bed really early, which means that I cannot stay up for the cycling here in Sydney, Australia. Love the tour and love the cycling, it was a real passion of mine, but I have a good thing going with work and cannot complain about making such a sacrifice. Hope you guys have some good weather over there and are enjoying all the action. I have one bet on Porte, and that’s all for me. Not sure what has happened to MC, but once he gets back on board he should steady the HMAS BF Cycling Forum;-)
Best regards,
SP

It's been a very quiet day at the Tour de France, with the regular sprinters fighting out a brief sprint, following what was more like a 230km Sunday Club Ride. Quite a pointless Stage without wind or bad weather which would have certainly spiced up this drab affair.... See My daily Blog.

Guillaume Martin 8/1 for Young Rider

Yesterday Miller said Bernal will be sacrificed in the mountains for Sky leader

Expects Martin as a team leader to do well

Stage 9 156km to Roubaix..

In total there are 15 of the 27 segments of cobbles/Paves from the Classic Roubaix in use. Several of the specialist riders will be on Guard Duty for their Team Leaders. Expect Moscon to lead out Froome & Thomas.

My Selections.

1. Sagan.
2. Avermaet.
3. Terpstra.

2 Fabulous days and good to see Thomas finally confirming his potential to be a true grand tour contender .Just hope he can maintain the form thro into next week and not blow a gasket like Yates did in the Giro.

Time for a punt now that there appears to be only 3 that you could really fancy. For me Dumoulin is the value bet at 8.5, he time trials well and is a specialist climber and hopefully can give the Sky guys something to think about.

I've been
Report marychain1 July 22, 2018 10:52 PM BST
I've been pretty quiet on this Tour, but (aftertime alert) I'm sitting on antepost vouchers on Roglic (without Froome) at 66/1 and Thomas at smaller stakes at 50/1 and 12/1 so hoping those two are the 1-2.

I haven't been hugely confident about many bets that I've felt have been worth sharing so far, and I haven't done that well so far on my stage bets, but I reckon I've got a couple for Tuesday.

Stage 16 has some serious climbs towards the end and it finishes with a long descent. It seems quite likely, from the long range forecast, that there could be some rain. Sky will be quite happy to let another break go because with Moscon being expelled it is even more crucial to take it slow and reserve troops for as long as they possibly can for the finale. Yates and Alaphilippe are favourites to win this stage, which is understandable. The final climbs and descents do bare a similarity to Clasika San Sebastian that Yates won in 2015, and Alaphilippe has numerous superb performances in races with similar terrain and has the polka dots to protect.
However, Yates was targeting stage 15 on Sunday too and the thing that stopped him and other climbers making it into the morning break was the lack of uphill miles in the early stages of the race (and Barguil being there, making the QS boys chase on). Stage 16 is similar, and it will be tough for lightweight climbers to make the break because of the flat start.

Guys with a real engine (especially if they have some support from team mates) have a huge advantage getting in the morning break over the fairly flat terrain again on Tuesday, but with the tougher finale than Sunday you'll still need to be a serious climber, so we can again look to De Gendt, Ion & Gorka Izaguirre and Bauke Mollema. However, they are all well found by the market already. For a couple of picks at big old prices that fit the spec, have a look at Tejay Van Garderen and Andrey Amador, both freely available at 150/1 in more than one of the big high street firms. They're two Rolls Royces that are no threat on GC, from teams that are clutching at straws to salvage their Tours after their GC dreams fell apart, and could give you a cracking run for your money.
Report marychain1 July 25, 2018 11:24 AM BST
Both my men got in the break yesterday but sadly neither had the leg and it was Yates and Alaphillipe who lit things up at the end after all. Today it doesn't make sense to look anywhere other than the strongest climbers. For me there are 5 genuine contenders here; Froome, Thomas, Dumoulin, Roglic and Landa. I can make arguments for and against all five, but in the end it comes down to price. I've taken Dumoulin, Roglic and Landa.

eyes of the world on froome over his failed drug test and he under performs yet no worries sky have a rider who suddenly improves 2 stone, a cynic [ like myself ] might think the magic carrots have just been passed on,lets hope we suddenly don't find out Thomas has been fighting asthma all his life

A new low for the Tour. Can't even get the times of the main competitors right. A sport which seems to do it's utmost to lose all credibility.
Report SontaranStratagem July 28, 2018 7:08 PM BST
I can't trust sport full stop, a lot of iffy stuff going on

Our bodies just aren't designed to be able to do the stuff these sports stars are doing, esp when it comes to riding for 23 days and covering over 2000 miles, up steep inclines etc, and doing the times they are achieving, the muscles just wouldn't be able to sustain it, the body would eventually give out its that simple

These riders are constantly in training? riding for like 11 months of the year without any rest.....

Something has to be going on Laugh
Report SontaranStratagem July 28, 2018 7:12 PM BST
They are human, we could do the training and be just as good? yet you do all the training, the prep etc, and you wouldn't be getting close to these athletes, that's not normal is it, we are all blood, gut and bone, but without some "help" we wouldn't be getting anywhere near these people.

They can keep their achievements, as one good man once said "you never won any of them fairly"

Money money money
