Are you not trusting the 4.30am (GMT) quoted on CricInfo?

You might be able to see it on espn.in/watch - this is now blocked for us in the UK, sadly.

Is this the next Test to take place or have I missed a scheduled series in between?

Agnew is tipping Woakes to open, which says a lot about other contenders for the role. It reminds me (a bit) of Paul Downton batting at 3 against the West Indies in 1984, a similar lack of alternatives.

Yes this is the next test for England, there are some one dayers first though.

Sorry, what I meant is, is this the next Test for anybody, not just England

No.

You can see schedule on cricbuzz: https://www.cricbuzz.com/cricket-schedule/series

Pakistan v Australia ...market is already open for that

I think Woakes is a good enough batsman to open but it would be asking a ridiculous amount of him for him to do so. It was stupid enough asking Ail to open in the UAE. Having said that, you wouldn’t expect a swing bowler to bowl that much in SL, so arguably it’s less stupid than that, in terms of effect on the attack and the effect of the player’s bowling on his battting. It’s more absurd in terms of how far outside the player’s usual role though. So:

Woakes
Burns
Ali
?

Then you play

Root
Stokes
Bairstow
Buttler
Curran
Rashid
Leach
Anderson

It’s not a bad side but it’s far more bowling than you need. I love Curran and Woakes but I can’t fit both of them in without leaving Jimmy out. Surely it’s a better side with a specialist batsman in for one of them, even though our specialist batsmen aren’t great.

Burns
Denly
Ali
Root
Stokes
Bstard
Butler
Woakes / Leach
Curran
Rashid
Anderson

I'd like to see England line up something like this.

leach surely a certainty to play. gotta have a spinner who can at least tie up an end and keep it tight. judging by the recent saffer series it could be very low scoring. both moeen and rashid bowl too many loose deliveries. can't be giving away 4 balls every over
Report Whisperingdeath September 21, 2018 6:11 PM BST
Yes true. We don't need 4 seamers for sure but three of them are our best batsmen!

Leach for Woakes or Curran which is a little unfair. Need to see a little more of Leach tbf and would also like to see what Stone cane do but don't think he will play unless we get Herath'd
