he has proven he can bat to a descent level for a tail ender now all he needs is a wicket that takes spin, I think he might be good enough to fill Fred Titmuss"s bootsHappy

Great knock today from Jack with a career best 66 to save the day and give Somerset a draw v lancs, can only do the boy good
Report mafeking May 7, 2018 10:12 PM BST
certainly seems a bit of a better bat than i thought. argument to say he should bat above stuart broad assuming he gets the nod to start the summer for england

decent start for zum too. dunno how much we'll see of leach but tres may only miss 4 matches given the middle of the summer of full of one day stuff

A broken foot, bad luck as the great man begun to hit form

bit worried when we sent them back in. thought it was an idiotic decision with no weather concerns

good question that. not a for a long time at the end of a round of fixtures. done it with leach and bess hardly taking a wicket between too

bit strange we've played 4 at home and only 1 away so far although acid test coming up on that score with surrey and essex away up next
Report terry mccann June 14, 2018 5:15 PM BST
Hard games for sure, Abell taking wickets and the tail wagging have been a big plus, we can only dream

play two spinners and without best pace bowler then put opposition in..crazy
Report mafeking June 22, 2018 12:01 AM BST
yep does seem another very strange decision from abell. it's the old adage you think about bowling then bat unless it's a very obvious bowl first decision which it clearly wasn't yday. didn't realise leach was fit and playing until today. only bowled 4 overs

that said our inexperienced batting line up was always likely to find us out sooner or later. 2 young lads in there and abell finding his feet again after a real struggle last year
Report isleham June 26, 2018 1:22 PM BST
when playing again back home we need to start producing some bunsons for jack and dom or else telegation could be an issue again
Report isleham June 26, 2018 1:22 PM BST
*relegation

Whos replacing renshaw
Report mafeking June 30, 2018 2:50 PM BST
only play once now before mid august. hopefully tres will back by then. done well considering him and leach have hardly played

still looking upwards. looks like last 2 weeks have turned it decisively for surrey but we could turn them over on a taunton bunsen and it'd be back on again
Report isleham July 1, 2018 11:32 PM BST
Crenshaw carried the batting along with Hildreth in first half so important top replacement is found

can always rely on lanky to be utterly useless when you need a favour off them. would have been game on if they had anything about them at all Plain

With Brooks next year we seem to have too many pace bowlers..somebody moving on?? plus
Bess may need regular first class cricket if he's to stay
Report mafeking September 25, 2018 9:35 PM BST
yep it's top 6 batsmen we are short of. bowling attack is one of the best around

Been a long time coming Terry, Gregory to make the T20 team next.
Report mafeking November 11, 2018 12:49 PM GMT
ludicrous it's took him so long to get a proper go in the side when he's obviously been the leading spinner in county cricker for the past 2 or 3 years

lot of nonsense talked about the taunton wicket. probably at least half of england's away tests will be played on spinning tracks so makes sense to prepare players. much less likely to see a green top which never seems to attract the same scrutiny
Report sewter lives again November 11, 2018 3:38 PM GMT
yes Leech looks very good now particularly impressed with his control

England are quietly building a good team with a bit of depth to it in certain positions-now if they could sort out a decent bat at 3!

Supps,Lewis was in great form last couple of months of the season,i sure that would have been noted

I think i might of got this right, very well done Jack and the sky"s the limit
Report mafeking November 26, 2018 1:11 PM GMT
done exceptionally well. guess he'll still be back on the bench next summer when they have to choose between him and moeen but with england's batting depth they could still play 4 seamers and 2 spinners
Report terry mccann November 26, 2018 2:26 PM GMT
I agree
Report sewter lives again November 27, 2018 11:50 AM GMT
agree mafeking especially given how well that woakes, curren and stokes can bat
Report sewter lives again November 27, 2018 11:52 AM GMT
and if he doesn't play at least England also have a great backup should Moeen lose his form again
Report mafeking November 27, 2018 1:02 PM GMT
at the moment first test at edgbaston most likely will see england lining up burns jennings bairstow root stokes buttler moeen foakes curran broad anderson
Report sewter lives again November 27, 2018 2:11 PM GMT
I have a horrible feeling that Woakes will replace Foakes by then with JB getting his way with the gloves
Report Injera November 27, 2018 5:55 PM GMT
Curran is similar to Willey imo. Better bats than bowlers. Both have golden arms though and find a way but neither are quick enough.

If Woakes is up around 90mph he'll be hard to oppose.

I wonder whether Bairstow may end up opening. That way Foakes still keeps. Huge series in the Windies for the 2 openers. After that no test cricket till August.

Both Jennings and Burns will have plenty of 4 day cricket to impress.

It's funny but some of our bowlers have a better chance of being in the side if they bat at 3!

I don't think YJB is the answer at 3 but he is a Kwality player so if he could temper his innings to the conditions and match situation he could be good. Saying that is the was I play is stupid and not worthy of a Test place. I hope Moen understands  that as his place is now under threat from Leach.

The way Butler and Stokes are batting is a beacon for some of the more experienced players to follow.

I saw Woakes make that hundred. He was most impressive but still needs to develop as a bowler.

I am not sure Jennings will cut it against good pace attacks but he has the temperament so we shall see.

England looking good but still need a top 3. A fast bowler and a mystery spinner but impressed the way they are heading. I saw Aus Nd SA crumble in SL

5-0 england more likely than australia winning all known evidence. doesn't matter how good their bowling might be cos even if england are 100/5 more often than not our batting depth will get us to 250-300. their batting is an absolute shambles when the ball moves around even with warner and smith. 6 or 7 times in the 5 matches they'll be bowled sub 250
Report Whisperingdeath November 29, 2018 8:21 PM GMT
Boom Joffra Archer could be one piece of the missing jigsaw puzzle!

I want to see how effective he would be in a Test Match.
